Dive into the key ruling and legal insight in the April '25 edition of PoSH Law India update.

The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court in Smita Sarode Singalkar v. Maharashtra University of Health Sciences has directed the Maharashtra Government to respond to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding the removal of the two-finger test from the MBBS curriculum. The Supreme Court, in its order in 2022, emphasised the need for training healthcare professionals and revising medical curricula to prevent discriminatory and unscientific practices. The Supreme Court has repeatedly stated that the two-finger test violates the right to privacy, physical and mental integrity, and dignity of rape survivors. The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has already modified its second-year anatomy curriculum to educate future medical professionals on the illegitimacy of such tests. The Bombay High Court has requested a detailed response from the State government and MUHS within two weeks, specifically regarding compliance with the Supreme Court's directives.
