Delhi HC Examines PIL Seeking Gender-Neutral Sexual Offences Under BNS
The Delhi High Court, comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia, is hearing a PIL filed by Advocate Shubhi Srivastava and others challenging the gender-specific framework of sexual offences under the BNS, 2023. The petition highlights the omission of Section 377 IPC, which, after Navtej Singh Johar, continued to criminalise non-consensual sexual acts, including against men and transgender persons. It challenges provisions relating to rape, sexual assault, stalking and voyeurism, arguing that they primarily recognise men as offenders and women as victims. The petition seeks gender-neutral interpretation or legislative amendment to ensure equal protection. The Bench, however, observed that creating a new criminal offence falls within Parliament’s domain.
Godrej DEI Lab Concludes Campus Challenge, Honours IIM Trichy for Inclusion-Driven Solutions
Godrej DEI Lab has concluded its India Included on Campus Case Study Challenge, with IIM Trichy taking the top honours. The initiative aimed to bring Godrej Industries Group’s inclusion values to campuses, engaging future leaders on DEI challenges and building awareness, empathy, and inclusive mindsets early on.
The finale, held at Godrej One, Mumbai, saw four teams present solutions on women’s retention and attrition. Winners Team Do and DEI, IIM Trichy, developed a gender inclusivity strategy for Godrej Agrovet’s agri-sector business, backed by surveys and field research, earning them INR 1,00,000 and mentorship from Godrej Industries Group leaders.
Godrej DEI Lab’s Parmesh Shahani noted the initiative aims to instill inclusion as a mindset among tomorrow’s leaders, not just a moral commitment but a driver of business growth, helping build more inclusive workplaces across corporate India.
India Hosted Its First World Inclusion Conference in New Delhi
The World Inclusion Conference (WIC) India 2026 was held at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, from 31 July to 1 August, marking India’s first and South Asia’s largest gathering on inclusive education. It was organised by the International Forum of Inclusion Practitioners (IFIP), active in 140 countries, along with AFAIRS Exhibitions & Media.
The movement began with a landmark gathering at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris in 2024. IFIP started this global effort to help education systems move beyond access and build genuine equity for every learner, including neurodiverse students.
WIC India 2026 sought to align India’s National Education Policy 2020 with UNESCO’s Sustainable Development Goal 4. Its mission included introducing standardised accreditation for inclusive institutions and a professional development roadmap for India’s neurodiverse workforce. Over 200 global experts and 1,000+ policymakers attended, aiming to reshape internationalisation in Indian education from mere access toward true inclusion.
